Greenhouse Reporting

Under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Act 2007 if your organisation exceeds specified corporate group reporting thresholds, it must register for, and meet, new mandatory energy reporting requirements.

Reporting obligations cover facilities under a corporation’s operational control in the areas of:

• Greenhouse gas emissions;
• Energy production; and
• Energy consumption.

The Act applies to both direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emitters. It can also apply to organisations that are indirect emitters and choose to report on a voluntary (Scope 3) basis.

Trading Scheme

Detailed design of the Australian Emissions Trading Scheme (AETS) will be finalised by the end of 2008; with the scheme commencing by 2010.  As information becomes available, mygreenaudit.com will endeavour to keep you up to date.
