Commencement of amendments to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Regulations 2008

Amendments to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Regulations 2008 commenced on 15 March 2009.

The amendments were required as a result of the passage of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Amendment Act 2008, and also to make a number of minor administrative edits and clarifications.

The amendments simplify requirements for applications for registration; move the location of the definition for ‘business unit’; establish requirements for identity cards for government authorised officers; clarify information to be provided by corporations for purposes of identification; address a number of inconsistencies in reporting requirements and correct formatting errors.

Commencement of amendments to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007

Some amendment provisions in the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Amendment Act 2008 have been in force since September 2008.  However, commencement of items 1, 8-10, 12 and 23 of Schedule 1 to the Amendment Act 2008 were delayed.  These items commenced on 15 March 2009.

The delayed amendments to the NGER Act 2007 include the definition of business unit; revisions to specifications concerning applications for registration; and revisions to public disclosure provisions.

The above amendments to the NGER Act 2007 and NGER Regulations 2008 do not represent any major shifts in government policy.  Compilations of the legislation, as amended and in force, are now available electronically on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.

Further information on the legislation and previous consultation is available at http://www.climatechange.gov.au/reporting/index.html
